Quicksburg
is a small community located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Shenandoah County in northwest Virginia. Quicksburg is home to two National Register of Historic Places: The Andrew Zirkle Mill and the Benjamin Wierman House. The Andrew Zirkle Mill is a 1760s era grist mill that is cited as a prime example of the architecture and construction of grist mills of its era. History buffs will find plenty of other places of interest near Quicksburg, including Stonewall Jacksons Museum, the Museum of American Presidents and the New Market Battlefield State Historical Park. The beautiful Shenandoah Valley offers vineyards and wineries, two world class golf resorts, snow skiing, hiking, antique shops and unique gift shops. It's also host to the summer season of the Shenandoah Valley Music Festival. Quicksburg is near Lake Laura at Bryce Resort, a 45-acre, man-made, private lake. Activities include swimming, boating, fishing, and a 3-mile hiking trail around the lake. The Quicksburg region is also at the heart of several scenic drives. The Massanutten & Great North Mountain map is recommended for those interested in driving these routes and is available at several national forest offices. If visiting for the fall colors, the best rule of thumb for peak season is to assume that in lower elevations, trees will be at peak or close to it by the middle of October, and in higher elevations (Great North Mountain) in early October.

Northwest Virginia , near the West Virginia border, has a distinct four-season climate. The mountain at Bryce Resort climbs to 1,750 feet above sea level. As such, it's one of the snowiest regions of the state. Some of the heaviest snowfalls in the United States occur in the Appalachians of West Virginia and the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. The climate consists of moderately cold winters and comfortable cool summers. The normal average temperature is 47.6 degrees F., with summer temperatures averaging 70-80 degrees F. The average annual precipitation is 42 inches.
