Linden
is an unincorporated community in Fauquier and Warren counties in northern Virginia. It's less than an hour from Washington D.C. with easy access to Highways I-66, VA-55 and US 50. At 945 feet above sea level, Linden sits at the top of the Manassas Gap in the Blue Ridge Mountains making it a gateway into the Shenandoah Valley. The popular north-south Appalachian Trail crosses Highway 55 and Under I-66 near Linden as it follows its way along the east side of the Blue Ridge. During the Civil War, the east of crossing the Blue Ridge at the Gap allowed Linden to serve as a point of transit for the Armies of both the Union and Confederate States. A small battle and postscript to the Confederate Gettysburg campaign, the Battle of Manassas Gap occurred about a half-mile from Linden on July 23, 1863. Today, the community of Linden is mostly a bedroom community with subdivisions such as High Knob, Apple Mountain Lake and Blue Mountain. It's also home to the Saint Dominics Monastery and the G. Richard Thompson Wildlife Management Area. Nearby attractions include the Skyline Drive, which is the scenic route through the Shenandoah National Park, the Linden Vineyards and Winery and the Blue Ridge Arts Council. The Shenandoah River Raymond R. "Andy" Guest State Park offers swimming, boating, fishing, canoeing and hiking.

North Central Virginia's Piedmont Region has a humid, subtropical climate with four, distinct seasons. Heavy snows are common in the wintertime in the Piedmont region, while the rest of the state may receive only a fraction of snow. Cold air masses arriving from the Blue Ridge Mountains, especially during the winter, can lead to significant snowfall and ice storms from early November to mid-March. Thunderstorms are possible in all months of the year, but more common in the warm, humid days of summer. Although the temperature of Virginia varies according to location, it generally becomes increasingly warmer farther to the south. During the month of September, anywhere from 10 to 40 percent of Virginias rainfall comes from hurricanes and tropical storms.
